I started this blog in 2016 as a way to share service projects and spread love. See below for a more detailed explanation as to how The Summer of Love Project came to be. Fast forward 2 years… there have been many exciting changes in my life, and I’d love to continue writing about my experiences with the intentions of getting more people involved and sharing some love and happiness with you. Click here to find out what I’ve been up to. Thank you for stopping by. Happy Summer!
Why I started The Summer of Love Project (Written May 2016):
My life has been teeming with love for the past year. Since I got engaged to my soulmate last summer, the flood gates opened and love spilled into my life. I went through some trials with my sweet feline fur baby, Norman, in November when he was misdiagnosed with cancer. My love for him and my diva of a dog, Xena, grew stronger than imaginable this year. I married my best friend and the love of my life in February 2016, we were showered with love from our family and friends at our wedding, we went on our honeymoon and took a few other little trips as newlyweds. Not to mention, I love and adore my amazing, brilliant students who have now moved on to 7th grade and have left me feeling nothing but grateful to have been their teacher. That’s a lot of love for one year! All of these experiences have been so fulfilling, and I feel immense gratitude for every single event that has occurred.
As my students completed service projects this year, they discovered an interesting trend in their research. Many places that require volunteers and donations, including food banks, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters, often have a decrease in help over the summer while the need for volunteers and goods increases during those summer months. This left me with a great desire to help where I can during my summer break.
So now it’s sweet, sweet summer! I just want to give back love as it has been given so freely to me. As a teacher, summer break is a time to boost my energy, rejuvenate, and improve myself with the ultimate goal of growing personally and enhancing my teaching practices for my upcoming students. Nothing helps me grow more spiritually, mentally, and emotionally than to learn from new experiences with new souls and to love more. So that’s exactly what I plan to do. This is my personal blog to share my summer service projects in an attempt to spread a little love throughout my own life and the lives of others. If you’d like to join me, even better! What better place to start than with myself?
